One of the 37 Philadelphia schools slated to close, Germantown High, is the alma mater of Comedian Bill Cosby and boxer Bernard Hopkins. Germantown was preparing for its 100 year anniversary in 2015. Instead they will prepare to close and transfer students next year. The reorganization of Elementary, Middle and High Schools has the support of Mayor Nutter and must be approved by the School Reform Commission.

A suspected mob soldier was arrested and charged in the Wednesday murder of Gino DiPietro outside his home in South Philadelphia. Anthony Nicodemo was picked up after ballistics matched the bullet to a gun found in his car parked outside his home in Packer Park.

Tomorrow, the third annual Parade of Lights will illuminate the Delaware River in festive holiday tradition. The parade of boats will include commercial, community and private boats all decorated with holiday lights. The parade begins at 5 pm Saturday and you can view the parade from the deck of the Seaport Museum at Penn’s Landing.
