Family Awarded $4.7M by Jury, New Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange, Fralinger Props Survive Fire

The family of the man shot by an off duty Philadelphia police officer three years ago has been awarded $4.7 million dollars by a federal jury. The jury also found the City of Philadelphia not responsible, ruling that Officer Frank Tepper was not acting as an officer during a drunken scuffle outside a baby shower. Tepper was convicted of murder and is in prison for life.

A new interchange to the Pennsylvania Turnpike opened today. Governor Corbett was on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the all-electronic, EZ Pass-only interchange at Route 29 in Chester County. The new interchange should reduce congestion at the Valley Forge and 202 Interchanges. Work began on the new Route 29 interchange in 2002.

Two Streeters were high-fiving today after Fralinger String Band members got word that their props inside the burned warehouse are still mostly intact. Just a little wet. The four alarm fire that destroyed a home only left smoke and water damage to the club’s props which appear will be usable in the annual Mummers Parade on New Year’s Day in Philadelphia.

Weather
Partly cloudy tonight. 33 in Philadelphia.
