Lenny Dykstra Sentenced, Paulsboro Residents Endure Train Wreck, NJ Minimum Wage Hike

Former Phillie Lenny Dykstra has been sentenced to six and a half months in prison for hiding possessions that were supposed to be included in his bankruptcy filing, World Series balls, bats that Dykstra sold off for his personal gain. He’ll serve his time concurrently with the time he is already serving for grand theft auto.

Many families in Paulsboro New Jersey spent another night away from home as crews work around the clock in the area of the Conrail train derailment dropping chemicals into the Mantua Creek and spewing harmful fumes into the air. A text alert and voice mail alert system have been established for residents who would like up to the minute information on progress of the clean-up.

The New Jersey Assembly has approved a bill that would raise the hourly minimum wage in the state above the federal mark for the first time since 2005. Governor Christie supports raising minimum wage, but wonders if the timing is right, possibly over-burdensome to businesses in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Minimum wage would increase from $7,25 to $8.50 per hour next year.
