Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is in Washington and voiced his support of President Obama’s message that the middle class tax cut should stay in place. As the country heads toward the fiscal cliff, Nutter wants to see no increase for taxpayers making less than $250,000. Nutter heads the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Hostess has announced it is going out of business. The maker of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Wonder Bread have been negotiating with striking workers over wages and benefits. Hostess set a deadline of 5 pm Thursday to return to work. The workers did not return. At 7 this morning the company announced the shutdown, including the Northeast Philadelphia plant.

The Philadelphia Marathon is Sunday. The weather will be beautiful with partly cloudy skies and race time temperatures in the mid 40’s. We are expecting 30,000 runners and over 60,000 spectators along the route and at the finish line. The festivities and road closures start today with many events and expos around Philadelphia.
