President Obama Tours New Jersey Damage, Power Gradually Coming Back, NJ Halloween Postponed

Governor Christie and President Obama toured the New Jersey coastline from Atlantic City to Point Pleasant this afternoon in the President's helicopter. Flying for about an hour, the President looked down on sand blown neighborhoods, flattened homes and flooded streets. In Seaside Heights he saw that the boardwalk is gone and an amusement pier had washed into the ocean. A crippled bridge to the mainland was littered with cars. The President promised quick assistance.

Power knocked out by Hurricane Sandy is gradually being restored around the Philadelphia area as electric companies work around the clock. PECO says 375,000 are without power. Many are in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. PSE&G has about 900,000 in the dark and is calling Sandy the worst storm in PSE&G history.

New Jersey Governor Christie has signed an executive order postponing Halloween until Monday, November 5th. Still reeling from the hurricane, Christie decided to delay trick or treating because he feels it is not safe. Children would face flooded streets, down power lines and trees, and blackouts. A state of emergency is still in effect in New Jersey because of Hurricane Sandy.

Halloween Weather
Cloudy and cool tonight. Down to 40 in Philadelphia.
