Philadelphia Eagles Fire Defense Coordinator Juan Castillo; Replace with secondary coach Todd Bowles

Andy Reid's experiment with moving an Offensive line coach to Defensive coordinator has come to and end. The Philadelphia Eagles have announced today at 5pm that Juan Castillo has been fired as DC and will be replaced by secondary coach Todd Bowles.

Andy Reid said at the press conference, "I want to make it clear that I have nothing but the ultimate respect for Juan Castillo as a coach and as a person," said head coach Andy Reid. "He's one of the finest football coaches that I have ever worked with. He has served this organization extremely well for 18 years and letting him go was a difficult decision. I know he will continue to be a successful coach in this league and wish he and his family nothing but the best."

The Eagles are sitting at 3-3 going into a bye-week. Andy has never made a major coaching decision in the middle of a decision. He said, "We’re six games into the season and average isn’t good enough. I know the potential of our team and insist on maximizing it."

This change comes 2 days off a poignant loss to the Detroit Lions where the defense gave up a 10 point lead with 5:09 remaining. The move to promote Castillo to head the defense from an offensive coaching position last year was quite controversial. His decisions were the focal points of many of the Eagles struggles since that time, and didn't come as quite as a surprise that he was let go, even mid season.
