Arlen Specter, Pennsylvania's longest serving US Senator, died Sunday in his East Falls home after battling Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Specter will always be known for his political independence, his questioning of Anita Hill that helped clear the way for Clarence Thomas appointment to the Supreme Court, and his "Single Bullet Theory" after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Specter will be buried tomorrow at noon. Arlen Specter was 82.

Six car fires early Sunday morning in Northeast Philadelphia have gotten the attention of city police and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives teams. Six car fires are considered suspicious in Bustleton. Flammable liquid had been poured near the driver's side door of each vehicle.

A Philadelphian City Councilman wants to make it tougher for neighborhoods to get residential parking permits. Permit parking allows residents with a permit unlimited parking time while others are restricted to posted limits. First District Councilman Mark Squilla has introduced a plan that increases from 51 percent to 70 percent majority consent for permit parking among neighborhood residents.
