October Highly Anticipated Album Releases, Don't Miss These

As Autumn settles in and the cooler air starts to invade, heat up your speakers or headphones with these albums due out this October.

10/2
'Wild Race' by Dr. Dog Philly's Indie Rock ambassadors are releasing a 5-song EP, a follow-up to their acclaimed Be The Void released earlier this year. These 5 songs are a perfect extension from that full length, continuing to push their evolution beyond their lo-fi roots with beautiful complex arrangements full of raw emotion.

'Until the Quiet Comes' by Flying Lotus Los Angeles based Steven Ellison brings us to another plane in this collection of tracks filled with his ethereal and abstract soundscapes and beats. He gets help with guest vocals from artists like Erykah Badu and Thom Yorke.

10/9
'Lonerism' by Tame Impala The sophomore album from the Australian rock group was written and recorded all by lead man Kevin Parker. He brought back Dave Fridman to mix the album just as he did for their debut Innerspeaker in 2010. The psych-rock feel is still there but this time around the melodies are tighter and the instrumentation is more evolved and deliberately layered, not completely spacey and directionless.

10/16
'Former Lives' by Benjamin Gibbard is the solo effort from Death Cab for Cutie's leading man. The songs and sound are all very reminiscent of DCFC, and are culled from Gibbard's more personal songwriting efforts over the years.

10/23
'Red' by Taylor Swift Country's darling from Wyomissing, PA is releasing another album full of songs written from the heart. Everything she writes is spelled out for you and comes right from her experiences. She explained that 'Red' signifies the bold and intense nature of emotion and love. Some songs lean more pop while others are more country, but that just makes it easy for her to pull her crossover act.

'The Haunted Man' by Bats For Lashes Natasha Khan lends her voice to tracks such as “Laura”, “Marilyn”, and the fair-or-unfairly Gotye compared “All Your Gold” in a way that leaves most listeners feeling a little off or uncomfortably touched. She is not grating, no, just hauntingly smooth and able to move you to a different place or mindset.

10/30
'Psychadelic Pill' by Neil Young Last year, Young and Crazy Horse got together to record an album of creatively reworked folk songs, releasing the album Americana in June. After those sessions, they really let it loose and recorded a double album's worth of wild exploratory jams. Key tracks include 'Walk Like a Giant', 'Born in Ontario', and the 17 minute 'Ramada Inn.' The opening track “Driftin' Back” clocks in at over 27:00.
