51st Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival underway; Live Broadcast iradiophilly
  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 08/17/12 5:06 am | updated: 08/17/12 5:06 am
The 51st Annual Philadelphia Folk Fest is once again descending upon the Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford, PA. The four day festival includes camping, a craft show, food of all kinds, and vendors of various sorts showcasing their wares. The family friendly event also includes an entire area called Dulcimer Grove dedicated to children with storytelling, jugglers, arts & crafts, and of course children's music. Children under 12 can even enter the concert areas for free. While some people never leave the campgrounds because of all the activity, spontaneity, and collaboration that seems to happen out there, I'd suggest you make your way to the stages and check out the year's musical lineup.

This year the committee purposely booked fewer acts than in the past to give each of them more time to play and to encourage and make it easier for collaboration, which is at the heart of the fest. This year also features continuous programming with musical performances, workshops, and showcases happening from 11 am to midnight straight-through. Day-passes are available for each day, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or you can purchase an All-Festival pass for the whole weekend. There are four stages throughout the festival grounds. The Tank, Craft, Camp and Main stages will host a wide variety of acts. Mary Chapin Carpenter, Little Feat, Trombone Shorty, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, and John Hiate, and Wanda Jackson are just of few of the big names set to take the stage.

A festival of this size doesn't just grow out of the fields of a working farm with some seeds, water and fertilizer. There have been over 2000 volunteers working for the past few weeks on site to get the grounds and the tiny temporary town ready for the thousands of concert goers. Food, sanitation, parking, ticketing, electricity, staging, water, plumbing, artist booking, sound, marketing, crafting, tech support, the list goes on and on. It takes a small army to get a festival ready to launch. But once all the preparations have been made, its time for the music!

For the first time in the 51 year history of the Philadelphia Folk Fest, iradiophilly will be LIVE streaming the festival performances. We are proud to be bringing all the performances from the Main Stage off the farm and out to you. We'll be broadcasting each day, Friday-Sunday, on our special “Philly Folk Fest” station. You can stream the entire festival live by choosing the “Philly Folk Fest” station on the home page menu, or download and listen on one of our FREE mobile apps.
