Pennsylvania Obesity Ranks High, Kensington Strangler Confession Ruled In At Trial

A recent study on Adult Obesity shows that Pennsylvanians are a bit larger around the waist than a few of our neighbors. The study was conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and split out each state by the percentage of the population considered to be obese. The numbers are not very flattering. The states are ranked in order of most to least obese. Pennsylvania comes in at 28.6% of the population considered extremely overweight, which is good for #20. That's compared to 23.7% in New Jersey and 24.5% in New York. They are #47 and #43 respectively. So who's #1? That distinction goes to Mississippi where 34.9% of the state's population is considered obese!

Judge Jeffery Mineheart ruled in a pretrial suppression hearing that the confession of the accused “Kensington Strangler” 23-year-old suspect Antonio Rodriguez will be allowed at trial. Rodriguez's defense attorney argued that detectives should have had the suspect sign a waiver of 5th Amendment rights and that any of his statements to police should be inadmissible. The judge ruled that oral Miranda rights were sufficient and that Rodriguez's statements after were voluntary.

Mostly Cloudy the rest of the evening, slight chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm. Temperatures in the mid-70s in Philadelphia.
