The first showcase game of the new Basketball Alumni Legends League is in the books. Team DC beat Team Philly 111-93 at the Charles E. Smith Center on the Campus of George Washington University. Team DC took control of the game early and never let go, building a sizable lead through 3 quarters. Philly made a push in the late game but it had too far to climb. These two teams will take the court again tomorrow in Philly, Sunday August 5th at Hagan Arena on the campus of St. Joe's at 8pm. Be sure to come out and cheer on Big 5 / City 6 legends.

The BALL CEO and Founder Michael Wranovics has the unique opportunity to make some changes to the traditional basketball game. There are a variety of new rules or rule changes meant to speed up the game play and make it more exciting for the fans. Some of them include:

  • Jump at beginning each quarter, jumper roster submitted before game

  • No possession arrow or jump ball, tie up goes to defense

  • 4-point shot

  • And-1 foul automatically counts as extra point, no foul shot taken.

  • Shooting foul incurs 1 2-point foul shot.

  • Shot clock is 30 seconds, in the last 5 minutes of game it goes to 20.

  • Goal tending rules follow FIBA rules. You can take it off the rim. (ie. No cylinder)

  • Team fouls accumulate throughout the game – 16 to reach bonus.

  • Choose to take a 3 for 3-point foul shot

Most of the players seem to like the different rules especially the 4-point shot. It took them a little while to get used to the automatic And-1 and surprisingly the goal tend (since they play overseas with that rule). Not everyone was crazy about the 2-point single free throw, but it did really help speed up play.

Check out the game tomorrow on ComcastSportsNet at 8pm, or come out to Hagan Arena.
