Suspect identified in 4th of July Shooting on JFK Blvd

Philadelphia Police have identified the shooting suspect from last night's gun fire that broke out during the Welcome America concert and fireworks on the Parkway. 16-year-old Nafis Scott of Germantown was arrested and taken into custody.

Scott is accused of shooting both a 17 and a 19-year-old in the leg along JFK Boulevard between 16th and 17th just a block from the back of the festivities on the Ben Franklin Parkway. The incident apparently extends from a neighborhood dispute that began last month.

An officer on the street witnessed the event and fired upon Scott when he turned his weapon toward police. Scott was hit by the officers bullet, grazed in the chest. All three young men were taken to hospitals and are ok.

Mayor Nutter held a press conference in which he said, "You have 5 or 6 hundred thousand people on the street. I'm not going to let some little @#!@% 16-year-old whose got a beef with somebody a month ago up in Germantown, negatively impact the image of the city."

Police Chief Ramsey explained that every officer was on shift yesterday. Mayor Nutter said, "What would we do to stop a 16-year-old, who should not have a gun anyway, from shooting somebody. What would we do?" An officer was there to witness the crime and respond immediately to the threat.

Police have charged Scott with two counts of aggravated assault, assault on a police officer and fire arms violations.
