Philadelphia's new School Superintendent is Hite; City of Chester Approves Smoking Ban in Parks

Earlier this week the School Reform Commission's search committee presented its two finalists for the job of Superintendent of the Philadelphia School District. They were Pedro Martinez of Las Vegas and William Hite from Prince George County, MD. It is being reported today that Martinez took the job of superintendent in Washoe County, NV. The SRC didn't say much early today, other then give indication they were still in their selection process. Tonight, however, they announced that William R. Hite Jr. will become the new Philadelphia School District superintendent.

The city of Chester approved a smoking ban near parks and playgrounds. More than 75 signs will be installed around the city that read “Young Lungs at Play.” City Council voted to ban smoking within 50 feet of parks, playgrounds, pools, and recreation centers. Violations could cost you up to $600. Next time you are outside in Chester and you light up, make sure you pay attention to where you are or you might walk away with a hefty fine.
