President Obama and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced a change in the administration's policy towards deportation of a certain class of young illegal immigrants, bypassing bypasses Congress and the stalled DREAM act. Under the new policy illegal immigrants who were brought into the country at an age younger than 16 and are currently under 30, have no criminal history, and have either graduated from high school, obtained a GED, or served in the military, and have been in the United States for 5 continuous years will get “prosecutorial discretion” when it comes to deportation. They will also be allowed to apply for a work permit. This is not a path for citizenship, but they would no longer have to fear deportation. They also state policy is not permanent and any new administration could change it (which of course this is an election year).

Rep. Bob Brady's wife Debra Brady was able to scare off a trio of would be burglars at their Philadelphia home in Overbrook this morning. She first ignored a knock at the front door at around 11 o'clock am. About at hour or so later around 12:30 pm her cable went dead and her small dog began to bark at the back door. That's when Mrs. Brady drawing the blinds and looking out a window saw one man trying to get in the door and two others sitting on the patio. They were all wearing surgical masks and hoods. She banged on the window and yelled, which scared them off. She then call 911. The police were able to determine thay they cut the cable, phone, and alarm system lines to the house. The fact they were scared off probably means they weren't expecting anyone home.

The Transportation Security Administration announced today that they are firing seven employees after an eight monthlong investigation into a bribery scandal at Philadelphia International Airport. Last November, ten employees were suspended when the scandal was discovered. Three of those employees have already resigned. A TSA training instructor responsible for giving annual proficiency exams was receiving payoffs in return for passing grades for TSA security officers. Some of those involved have already been tried in court on bribery charges, there will probably be more to come.

TSA statement:
“TSA holds all of its employees to the highest professional and ethical standards and has zero tolerance for misconduct in the workplace. The agency takes prompt and appropriate action with any employee who does not follow TSAs procedures and engages in misconduct. The decision to propose the removal of the seven TSA employees affirms our strong commitment to the safety of the traveling public and to hold all our employees to the highest standards of conduct and accountability.”

In Sports, Phillies are in Toronto this weekend for an interleague series vs the Blue Jays.

Tonight, partly cloudy skies, with comfortable temperatures in the 70's in Philadelphia
