Jurors in the Clergy abuse case deliberated for a full five hours today without conclusion. Today was their first full day of deliberations after first meeting alone Friday afternoon. They sent several requests back to the court room clarifying charges such as the elements of attempted rape and the people who needed to be involved in endangerment or conspiracy. The jury also requested exhibits of evidence presented on Edward Avery, the former priest who plead guilty before trial. They will continue again tomorrow.

Mayor Nutter announced today that James Earl Jones would be the 2012 recipient of the Marian Anderson Award. Created in 1998, it “honors critically acclaimed artists who have impacted society in a positive way, either through their work or their support for an important cause.” Pamela Browner White, chair of the Marian Anderson Award committee, said of Jones, "For five decades on stage and screen he has been an American role model, inspiring through quiet confidence and strength" Past winners include Harry Belafonte, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Quincy Jones, Danny Glover, Oprah Winfrey, Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis, Sidney Poitier, Richard Gere, Maya Angelou and Norman Lear, Bill Cosby and Mia Farrow. The ceremony will be held Novemeber 19th at the Kimmel Center.

Today the Judge in the Sandusky abuse trial denied a request from accusers to have the court protect their names and use pseudonyms when testifying in court. Judge John Cleland said that state law does not give him the authority to allow adults to use an alias in open court. However this affects those scheduled to take the stand, giving their real name, will have to be seen. Judge also ruled that there can be no electronic communication from the courtroom, take tweets to the streets so to say. Jury selection starts tomorrow.

In Sports, Chase Utley went 3-for-4 with a home run in an extended spring game in Florida this afternoon. He bat third as the DH.

Tonight Cloudy with intermittent showers tapering off, temperatures cooling into the 50's in Philadelphia.
