The jury in the federal corruption trial against former senator and two time democractic presidential candidate John Edwards came back deadlocked on all but one of the felony charges brought against him after nine days of deliberations. Edwards is accused of misappropriating close to $1 million in campaign donor funds to hide his pregnant mistress during his 2008 presidential campaign. The jury reached a not guilty verdict on one count of the indictment, U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Eagles urged them to continue to deliberate on the remaining five counts. After failing to come to a conclusion, the judge declared a mistrial on those remaining 5 counts.

A mother for Drexel Hill is now out on bail after she knocked her teenage son unconscious with a baseball bat during an argument. Kerry Marchesani was charged with simple assault and harassment. The 50-year-old old mother was arguing with her son's friend and punched him, when the son stepped in she hit him with the bat. “Sometimes discipline goes a little too far,” said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood. “It’s not mother-son love, it’s not tough love, it turns out to be criminal love.” Marchesani had apparently been drinking, the son was treated and will be ok.

In Sports, The Phillies are off today. They come home tomorrow for a weekend series vs. the Marlins. An update on Ryan Howard, he is making progress but unlikely to return in June. Chase Utley is also improving, but no timetable on his return.

Clear skies and comfortable temps this evening in Philadelphia.
