Duck Boat Case Settled for $17 mil, Guilty Verdict in No Libs Murder, 'City in Bloom' on Parkway

The Jury in the 2010 Northern Liberties murder case of Sabina Rose O'Donnell took little time deliberating this morning. After only a few hours they came back with a guilty verdict on the charge of first-degree murder and four other felonies for 20 year old Donte Johnson. Judge Bronson sentenced him to the maximum life sentence plus 40-80 years.

The civil case between the operators of the watercraft involved in the 2010 Duck boat/barge accident and the victims, specifically the families of the two Hungarian students, has been settled today. It only took two days of testimony in what was expected to be a month long trial. A total of $17 million will be paid out. $15 million for the families of the students who were killed, and $2 million for the 18 passengers who survived the crash. A memorial will also be placed at Penn's Landing.

Dozens of volunteers were out today braving the inclement weather taking part in an effort to beautify the city. It's all part of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Societies' “City in Bloom” project. Members were hard at work, planting more than 4000 plants from Love Park to Logan Circle along the Parkway and our Museum District which is expected to draw many tourists to the city next month with the opening of the Barnes Foundation.

Showers and thunderstorms tonight, temperatures in the 60's in Philadelphia
