Police Arrest Northeast Philly Tire Slashing Suspect

Police in Northeast Philadelphia have arrested a suspect, David Toledo, who lives on Aldine Street in Mayfair. That is the same street that bore the brunt of the attacks. David also belongs to the Aldine/Teesdale block watch group that was setup after the rash of attacks began. Toledo himself reported acts of tire vandalism to his own car and his wife's vehicle to the police, and talked to several media outlets during coverage of the attacks about being terrorized by the slasher and not knowing what to do.

Northeast Detectives stated that Toledo was responsible for vandalizing 55 cars on Aldine and Teesdale streets between Frankford Avenue and Erdick Street since November. He is facing two counts of felony Criminal mischief, 47 counts of criminal mischief and other counts, including providing false reports to police for reporting his own tires being slashed.

Police called the investigation a long process which had a few suspects, but they narrowed it down to Toledo, whom they believe acted alone.

There have been tensions and uproar in the neighborhoods affected by these acts that cost residents thousands. Many seemed to warn of vigilante justice. Northeast Detective Captain Jack McGinnis wants Mayfair to remain calm in the wake of this arrest.

“We don’t want any acts of retaliation to the Toledo family.”

There were 55 cars affected and Police say they’ll push for restitution through the court system.
