PA Gov. Wolf Calls on Philly NAACP Pres. to Resign; Woman in Trunk Identified; Motorcyclist Killed

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Attorney General Josh Shapiro are joining other lawmakers and civil leaders in calling for the resignation of Philadelphia NAACP President Minster Rodney Muhammad. Last week, Muhammad shared a meme to Facebook that was widely considered anti-Semitic. The image featured a large hand pressing down on a group of people. It had a quote misattributed to the philosopher Voltaire saying, "To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize." Finally, the meme had the photos of rapper and actor Ice Cube, Philadelphia Eagles player DeSean Jackson, and actor and television host Nick Cannon, all of whom have recently made anti-Semitic comments. Muhammad said he did not know the implications of the meme and only wanted to "start a dialogue about criticism and understanding." He immediately removed the post. However, many still want him to step down including the Jewish Federation and Pennsylvania State Sen. Anthony Williams.

The body of a woman found in the trunk of a car last Tuesday in West Philadelphia has been identified as 35-year-old Markeya Green. Green was discovered by an employee of Superior Automotive on the 5500 block of Merion Avenue in the trunk of a silver Dodge Charger with heavy front end damage. The medical examiner was not able to determine a cause of death because of the level of decomposition. A police source also says there may be surveillance video showing the woman being attacked by a naked man. The investigation is still ongoing. If you have any information call police at 215-686-TIPS. Green is being remembered by family as a good mother. Family and friends had a memorial on Monday.

Philadelphia police say that a motorcyclist was killed on Tuesday afternoon, 7/28, after he ran a red light and struck another vehicle in the city's Wissinoming neighborhood. It happened just before 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Tacony and Van Kirk Streets. The 50-year-old rider was on Tacony and went around traffic stopped at the light and through the red light. He struck a Chevrolet Cruze that was making a turn. Police say he suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released. The 64-year-old driver of the other car was not injured.
