UPDATE:The family has just announced that Cayman Naib died of a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The Delaware County Medical Examiner's office confirmed today. Autopsy Report: Cause of Death Ruled Suicide

Delaware County District Attorney's office has confirmed that missing Newtown Square teenager Cayman Naib was found dead on his family's 13-acre property today. The body of the 13-year-old was discovered covered in snow near a stone wall in a creek by members of the Greater Philadelphia Search and Rescue. He was only a few hundred yards from his house in a shallow part of Darby Creek. Naib left home on Wednesday around 6:30 pm after receiving an email from school regarding a late assignment. He was an 8th grader at the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr. It was raining at that time, the heavy snow began hours later overnight into Thursday. Mark G. Hopkins, chief of the search and rescue squad, described the area as "treacherous, with a huge probability of slippage." Hundreds of volunteers had been searching for the missing boy over the past few days. The Delaware County Medical Examiner's office will perform an autopsy on Monday to determine cause of death. A vigil was held on Sunday evening at 6:30 pm at the Shipley School. Grief counselors will be available for students at the school throughout the week.

The Naib Family released this statement on the Find Cayman Facebook Page (now 'Celebrating Cayman'):

It is with a heavy heart that we share news that the family has just learned through the search and rescue team and local law enforcement that Cayman has been found deceased. Please understand that the family is still processing and struggling with this most recent news but that they would like to thank all of the thousands of people over the last five days – friends, family, community, law enforcement, local, county, and federal, search and rescue, fire departments, the school communities, especially Shipley and Episcopal Academy, and even perfect strangers – who have come together to support the family to find Cayman.

We can't begin to tell you how this support and concern and prayers have buoyed the Naibs during this incredibly difficult time. We would ask at this point that the family be given the privacy and quiet that they need to grieve, heal, and to support their daughter.

While the investigation is ongoing there will be no further public statements or posts to this Facebook page.
