Profanity at Welcome America Concert, Firefighters Protested, Synthetic Drug on Boardwalk in AC

The city has announced it will review the Welcome America 4th of July concert on the Parkway focusing on the foul language used by several of the performers. The language made it uncomfortable for parents who brought children expecting a family friendly show. The televised concert featured Nicki Ninaj (pictured), The Roots, Ed Sheeran and others. Mayor Nutter says he will work to make the concert more family friendly next year.

Mayor Michael Nutter spoke out in defense of the Philadelphia firefighters who responded to the blaze on Gesner Street that killed four young children. Nutter says rumors and lies had been spread about the department’s slow response to the fire culminating in a protest outside the firehouse last night. Records show the firefighters were on the scene within minutes of the first call.

Police in Atlantic City are dealing with a new liquid synthetic drug that has sickened and hospitalized several teenagers. They say it’s a synthetic marijuana sold to teenagers by Angels and Saints on the boardwalk in a hookah pen. The synthetic cannabinoid is similar to K2 which is banned in New Jersey. Angels and Saints license has been suspended and the owner and store clerk were arrested.

Sports
The Phillies are in Milwaukee with the Brewers tonight.

Weather
Mix of clouds and sun. Isolated thunderstorms possible. 96 in Center City.
