Sunday Afternoon Jazz on the Grange Veranda -- Emmy Award Winning Jazz Guitar Duo Tom Glenn and Stu
Sun, Sep 20 2015, 2:00 pm - Sun, Sep 20 2015, 3:30 pm

The Grange Estate
143 Myrtle Avenue
Havertown, PA 19083

Bring your blanket and enjoy a relaxing afternoon of jazz with Emmy Award winning guitar duo Tom Glenn and Stu Goodis. The dazzling duo bring their melodic and innovative style to the veranda of the Grange Estate on Sunday, September 20 from 2:00-3:30 pm. Located at 143 Myrtle Avenue in Havertown, the Grange Estate was built in 1682 and holds a distinctive place in local and Philadelphia history. During the 1780's, while owned by Revolutionary War Patriot, John Ross, many of the influential men of the time were entertained at the mansion including George Washington and Lafayette.

Goodis and Glenn have been selected to perform at JazzFest on Cape Cod for five consecutive years and have been featured as the weekend's “Best Bets” by the Cape Cod Times.

The Goodis and Glenn jazz guitar duo story is regional and inspiring. Their geographical roots from the Philadelphia area and similar musical influences created their artistic foundation.

In the 1980’s, while Tom was teaching music at the Neupauer Conservatory in Philadelphia, he met Stu Goodis. Their relationship started as student-teacher then grew over 30 years to colleague status. Tom introduced Stu to jazz. Their mutual love for jazz inspired each of them to become students of jazz guitar virtuoso and Philadelphia native Pat Martino, Tom in 1971 and Stu fifteen years later.

Over the years, although they didn’t perform together for most of that time, they grew individually through their own teaching, learning and “artistic pursuit” experiences.
Both Tom and Stu became Emmy Award winning composers.  Each developed their own individual jazz language. In 2010, they collaborated to produce Jazz Dance, their first CD of original music, followed by Dialogue, Continuum and New Song.

The Grange Estate has a unique significance and history for Tom Glenn. Growing up in Chatham Park, Tom affectionately remembers playing baseball, football and tennis with his friends in the Grange field (and drinking from the water wheel spring.) In 2010, while he was living in New England, Tom searched and found his teenage sweetheart and Havertown native, Kathy Anderson who was living in Los Angeles. Although the couple hadn't seen each other in 37 years, their old flame was quickly reignited and they found themselves back together and returning to Tom's childhood Chatham Park home. In October 2014, Tom and Kathy were married at the Grange Estate.
