Yuengling is now the Largest American Brewery

D.G. Yuengling and Son, based in Pottsville, PA, has become the largest domestically owned brewery, passing Sam Adams maker Boston Beer. Last year, Yuengling's shipments rose 16.9% to 2.5 million barrels, where Boston Beer only rose 8% to 2.4 million barrels.

CBS 3 reports the new home of the Barnes art collection being built on the Ben Franklin Parkway is harvesting elements from the past, and incorporating features of the future, to achieve LEED Platinum Certification.

Barnes Project Manager Philip Ryan says the floor in the primary event space incorporates endangered South American boards that could have wound up in a landfill.

"Reality is Broken" is the title of a new book by Philadelphia native, Jane McGonigal.

In it the author says games, either online or on a playing field can give us emotions and ways to learn that are hard to come by in real life.

She talks of a new form of problem solving called extreme scale collaboration that can come from participating in online games where dozens of users can cooperate in battles.

Joe Paterno had not spoken publicly about his role in the ongoing sexual abuse scandal that rocked Penn State University. Students rioted in November when Penn State fired Joe Paterno as the school's head football coach. Paterno-who is battling lung cancer-gave his first interview to the Washington Post.

Philadelphia Archdiocese Considers Mission Schools

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is considering opening Mission Schools to ensure Catholic education in poor, inner-city neighborhoods. Mission Schools would be a new category of schools modeled after successful programs in Philadelphia such as St. Malachy in North Philly. Interestingly, St Malachy is on the list of schools to be closed and merged. The new merged school would become a Mission School.

Penn State President Tour Hits Philadelphia

New Penn State President Rodney Erikson is on tour conducting town hall type meetings to address concerns and discuss the University's position on the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse allegations.

More than 650 Penn State alumni attended. Much of the crowd's anger focused on the firing of football legend Joe Paterno than on the child-sex-abuse scandal and cover-up that provoked it.

Phillies Give Kyle Kendrick a One Year Deal

The Phillies have agreed to a one-year, $3.585 million contract with Kyle Kendrick. With five weeks until pitchers and catchers report, the Phillies have secured Kendrick who has started, worked long relief and anything else the Phillies have asked of him.

In a career-high 34 games last season, including 15 starts, the 27-year-old Kendrick went 8-6 with a career-best 3.22 ERA.

Barnes Museum Benefits from $2 Million Philadelphia Marketing Campaign

In preparation for the official opening of the Barnes Foundation on the Ben Franklin Parkway, a $2 million marketing campaign will help spread the word. The first wave of performers for the 2012 GRAMMY's have been announced.

They include nominees Jason Aldean, Kelly Clarkson, Foo Fighters, Bruno
Mars, Nicki Minaj, and Taylor Swift.
