A bill requiring all city employers to provide paid sick leave was vetoed by Mayor Nutter in June, but a different plan received City Council committee approval this week.

The bill, which would require the city and employers with city contracts, funding or leases, to provide up to seven earned sick days a year and would be a part of the living-wage and benefits law.

This bill affects fewer employers, is different from the previous bill and this plan, has nine... Read More

Higher tolls have meant less traffic on four Delaware River bridges linking Philadelphia and South Jersey.

Since tolls increased by $1, traffic has been down about 4 percent on the Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry, and Betsy Ross Bridges.
Bridge traffic is at the lowest level in more than a decade, projected to dip to 50 million vehicles this year. The peak was 55 million in 2007.

Ridership is up on the PATCO commuter rail line about 4.4 percent... Read More

The Phillies have delivered on the season of big promise. The pitching staff that graced the cover of Sports Illustrated at the beginning of the season delivered 102 wins despite injuries. Putting good, high paid players together on the roster does not guarantee success. If it was that easy,... Read More

Mail order gun permits from Florida, where the rules are less stringent, are growing in popularity in Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania and Florida have a reciprocal agreement to respect each other's gun licenses, and local police are compelled to honor these permits, despite any opposition they may have due to a person’s character or background info.
