Firefly Festival in Dover Delaware

by: acsquared - Lincoln University, PA
started: 07/24/12 5:06 pm | updated: 07/24/12 5:06 pm

This past weekend I attended the first ever Firefly Music Festival in Dover Delaware. The festival included headliners Jack White, The Killers, and The Black Keys all of whom gave excellent performances. Jack White engaged the audience by performing some of hits from his older bands but focused on his new album Blunderbuss as well. He ended his set with Seven Nation Army. All weekend people were singing that song as they left the venue.

The Killers' performance created a sense... Read More

Accused priest, Father James Brennan will be retried in the attempted rape of a 14 year old boy back in 1996. Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams wants to hold Brennan accountable for what he did. In June, the jury was deadlocked on the Brennan charges.

A deadly home invasion in West Oak Lane last night played out in front of the 84 year old homeowner. A woman knocked on the door saying she needed to use the phone. When the door was opened, two men pushed into the... Read More

Gov. Chris Christie has ordered that flags on public buildings around New Jersey be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday in honor of those killed in the shooting rampage at a Colorado movie theater. Christie's order follows one by President Barack Obama that flags be flown at half-staff on federal buildings.

A Voorhees police officer was charged Monday with misusing his police powers for personal reasons. Jeffrey M. Tyther is accused of using the State Police NCIC motor vehicle... Read More

Xponential Festival is a success!

  by: Kibarra - Philadelphia, PA
started: 07/24/12 1:31 am | updated: 07/24/12 1:31 am

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to attend both the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE, and the Xponential Festival in Camden, NJ. Although they took place during the same three days, the Xponential Festival had a suprising turnout. Xponential might not have had as famous of artists such as Jack White and the Black Keys, but they did headline Dr. Dog, Wilco, and Counting Crows. I was surprised at the large turnout at Xponential as it is on a much smaller scale and mostly only local... Read More

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett wants assurances Penn State won't use any tax dollars to pay the $60 million fine slapped on Penn State by the NCAA today. Corbett is relieved the NCAA did not shut down football altogether and is confident that the University, which is more than football, will still be considered world class.

The Paterno family is furious over the NCAA's actions today, part of which stripped 14 seasons of football and wins from Joe Paterno. The family is angry... Read More

A year ago, Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London home from alcohol poisoning. The singer was only 27 years old. Known for her bluesy crooning, Winehouse won five Grammy awards with her US breakthrough album “Back to Black”.

Since her death, her fame has not decreased. On September 14th, 2011, which would have been her 28th birthday, the Winehouse family unveiled the Amy Winehouse Foundation. The foundation raises money that is given to various charities to help... Read More

The Joe Paterno statue came down yesterday at Penn State. And today the NCAA announced severe, punitive sanctions against Penn State because of the cover-up in the Jerry Sandusky scandal. Among others, Penn State will pay a $60 million fine which is equivalent to one year gross revenue from football, be banned from bowl games for 4 years, reduce football scholarships from 25 to 15 per year for 4 years. Further, all Penn State football wins from 1998 to 2011 will be vacated and the official... Read More

Firefly Music Festival wrapping it up Day 3; The Black Keys, Flaming Lips, Cold War Kids

Today was Day 3 at the Firefly Music Festival and the sun finally made an appearance or two for Sunday, but didn't bear down on the crowds. It made for a very pleasant day in Dover, DE for concert goers whether they were weekend weary campers or day passers taking this all in for the time. The lines for the free Arcade were still long (especially the Skeeball) and if you wanted to design your own Toms shoes (after purchase of course) I think you had to get in line sometime Friday. The hot air... Read More

NCAA Sanctions Coming To Penn State, Paterno Statue Removed, Firefly Festival Successful

  by: Rebel - Havertown, PA
started: 07/23/12 1:50 am | updated: 07/23/12 1:50 am

The NCAA announced Sunday that it will issue sanctions against Penn State in the wake of a scathing report that found that top university officials buried child sex abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky and led to the tearing down of the famed statue of once sainted coach Joe Paterno.
The bronze statue, weighing more than 900 pounds, was built in 2001 in honor of Paterno’s record-setting 324th Division I coaching victory and his “contributions to the university.”... Read More

Firefly Music Festival rocking along Day 2; The Killers, Modest Mouse, Cake

Saturday, Day 2, at the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE, ended with a bang from the pyrotechnics of mainstage headliners The Killers, but there was plenty of action through out the earlier part of the day. The weather was again very cool and cloudy, with a few sprinkles throughout the day. It was very comfortable for a festival held in the middle of a mid-Atlantic summer. It feels like early April. The sun will indeed come out tomorrow, but still only reach about 80. The British isles type... Read More
