The Phillies front office has been busy in the off-season and has landed an experienced closer to replace Ryan Madson. Jonathan Papelbon, the six year closer for the Boston Red Sox will come to Philadelphia in a four year deal worth $50 million. Papelbon reached 200 saves faster than any other pitcher in the majors while in the highly competitive American League East.

In Papelbon, the Phillies have added another good clubhouse guy who should gel with this team. Ultimately... Read More

The National Weather Service announced that 2011 is the wettest year in Philadelphia weather history.

The precipitation total - including all that melted snow and ice - has reached 56.66 inches at Philadelphia International Airport.

The annual average is 41.3 inches. This year's accumulation had blown past that mark by the time Irene's downpours ended Aug. 28.
It’s the wettest 10-year period in 138 years of record-keeping, edging out the 1970s.

Todd Rundgren reunites with Utopia at the Tower Theater.

Born and raised in Upper Darby, it’s only fitting that he and the original Utopia members of four decades ago bring it all back home this weekend. The band’s been playing 10 song set, one song encore on the tour.

Most shows are strictly Utopia material, no Todd solo hits.

Utopia and Todd Rundgren album tracks can be heard on these stations: Bellbottoms, Libra, and... Read More

Pedro Ramos chaired his first meeting as leader of the Philadelphia School Reform Commission and made it clear he will change the way it does business. Earlier, Ramos had said that "at times, it looks like the SRC's trying to drink water through a fire hose."

Ramos is creating new committees to deal with SRC business more efficiently and transparently, including moving meeting times later, so people who work during the day could attend. He also allowed members of the audience... Read More

Police Say McQueary Never Reported Incident
  by: iradiotom - Philadelphia, PA

On Wednesday, police in State College claimed they never spoke to Mike McQueary about former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky's alleged sexual assault of a boy in 2002. McQueary had claimed otherwise.

McQueary was a 28-year-old graduate assistant in 2002 when, according to his testimony in the Grand Jury report, he witnessed Sandusky sexually assaulting a young boy in the Penn State locker room showers. McQueary has been criticized for not intervening to stop the... Read More
Penn State's McQueary Is Not the Villain
  by: iradiotom - Philadelphia, PA

If you've been following the sordid Penn State story you might think graduate assistant Mike McQueary is a criminal. The sports press has convicted McQueary in the court of public opinion, vilifying him without having knowledge of all of the facts of this case. It turns out, they may have all been wrong. An example. For at least 2 days on ESPN Radio's nationally syndicated Mike & Mike morning show, co-host Mike Golic repeatedly tore into McQueary for "not doing enough to stop Jerry Sandusky."... DeSean Jackson was deactivated for Sunday's loss to Arizona because he failed to attend a team meeting a day earlier. Initially, it was thought that Jackson simply overslept.

Jackson’s explanation on Monday didn't mention anything about sleeping too late. A team source said Sunday that the missed meeting wasn't the first incident of the season with Jackson.
Michael Vick suffered broken ribs in the loss and his status for Sunday night against the Giants is uncertain.Read More

Nine games into the season, and the Philadelphia Eagles are 3-6. Andy Reid promoted Juan Castillo from offensive line coach to defensive coordinator, and now the defense has gone from subpar last year, to awful this year.

The Eagles have blown five fourth-quarter leads. Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals and fourth quarter collapse was tied to penalties, mental errors, and physical mistakes.

Regarding the defense, Andy Reid says we have to fix it. Castillo... Read More
