Forbes magazine has released it's annual rankings of colleges and universities. Forbes' list, although popular, sometimes gets criticized for it's ranking method. The rankings are based on five categories which include postgraduate success (32.5%), which evaluates alumni pay and prominence; student satisfaction (27.5%), which includes professor evaluations and freshman-to-sophomore retention rates; debt (17.5%), which penalizes schools for high student debt loads and default rates; four-year... The road ahead for the School District of Philadelphia doesn't look good after the release Thursday of the findings of an independent consultant. At the top of the list of recommendations: the district should close between 29 and 77 schools over the next five years. The consultant found the district has far too many empty desks and needs to close dozens of schools to increase the percentage of desks filled, getting that figure closer to 85 or 90 percent. On July 29,2012, Sigur Ros broke their 4 year hiatus with a debut performance at the new Skyline Stage at the Mann Center. They began their tour in Philadelphia with back to back sold out shows before heading around the US, Canada, and on to Europe. Their long awaited tour could not have begun more successfully. This Sunday, August 5th from noon to 10pm, Northern Liberties will once again host the Fourth Annual 2nd Street Festival. North 2nd Street will be closed off between Green and Germantown and filled with beer gardens, workshops, art, food, and other merchandise vendors. There's also going to be plenty of music. Arrests in Home Invasion Attacks, Joe Butterball Tamburro Rests

Philadelphia police arrested a suspect in the attack of an 87 year old and her son during a home invasion on Tuesday in West Philly. The suspect, Jimmy Morrison, was arrested in Chester County after he gave a fake name during a traffic stop. The victims, Yvonne Gaines and her 62 year old son James Brinkly are recovering from their stab wounds.

Gunman Arrested on SEPTA Train, Human Trafficking Sentence, Closing Up to 57 Schools Recommended

A heavily armed gunman was arrested Tuesday evening on a crowded SEPTA train. An alert passenger notified police when they noticed a man board the train at City Hall with a gun protruding from his bag. It turned out to be an AK 47 assault rifle. He also had a 38 caliber handgun, a 12 inch bayonet knife, live ammo, $700 in cash, marijuana and 22 Percocet pills. Jermal Ponds is being held on $100k bail.

Broad St Line Weapons Suspect Arrested, Kensington Antique Cars Damaged, Phillies Win 2nd In A Row

A suspect carrying several weapons, including an AK-47, was arrested Tuesday evening aboard a Broad Street train, crowded with rush-hour commuters, at the Fairmount Station. In addition to the AK-47 assault weapon with a magazine carrying 40 live rounds of ammunition, authorities say the suspect had on him a .38 revolver and a 12-inch bayonet. Inside the bag, in addition to the weapons, police say they found $700 cash, seven containers of suspected marijuana and 22 Percocet pills.

Fast moving storms dumped about one to two inches of rain in a short period of time today, leaving streets flooded in Wildwood and North Wildwood. A group of four were huddled under an umbrella near Cedar Avenue seeking shelter during the storm when a bolt of lightning struck nearby and traveled up the umbrella, injuring a male and female. The two were taken to the Cape Regional Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The City of Philadelphia may take a shot at landing a $1 million terrorist fighting fire boat from Bensalem Township. Marine 37 is the official name of the vessel but has been nicknamed the "Bear on the Delaware" because Bensalem can't keep up with maintaining the little used boat.

Snoop Dogg has dropped the latter half of his name, and along with it, and his music style - in favor of reggae. After spending time in Jamaica, Snoop says that he has found his Rastafarian calling.
