Philadelphia School District Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. announced nearly 37 school closures throughout the city and 18 more program/grade changes (see closings list below). The school closings are necessary for the cash poor school district. Hite says the closure of these underutilized buildings should have happened a long time ago but previous superintendents might have pushed off the difficult and unpopular decisions and kicked the proverbial can down the road. Paul McCartney of the Beatles filled in for the late Kurt Cobain during the 121212 Benefit Concert for Hurricane Sandy. He was joined by Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear on stage for a once in a lifetime Beatles/Nirvana supergroup/reunion. They played a brand new track titled "Cut Me Some Slack."



Another highlight from the night include Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder joining Roger Waters for "Comfortably Numb."

SEPTA Train Shooting, 121212 Concert, Meek Mill Plea to Finish Tour

Police are still searching for two teens who shot two men on SEPTA’s Market Frankford train last night. The incident started after the 76ers-Bulls game when the teens got angry over the 35 year old Bulls fan’s celebration. As the teens left the train at 46th street, one turned and fired a shot into the train hitting the victim in the stomach and another man in the leg. The shooting victim is in critical condition.

Voter ID Law, Philadelphia School District Closings, SEPTA Train Shooting

The voter ID law is back in Commonwealth Court this morning.
Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson is expected to layout the timeline for the remainder of the case. Judge Simpson's October ruling only stopped the voter ID law for the November 6th general election, which means the law is currently in effect and could be enforced in future elections.

A pit-bull fighting ring has been busted in Chester County. A couple ran dog fights in their home where they were also raising their 5 children. Police arrested Shane Santiago on drug charges and upon entering his home, found the bloody dog fighting operation. Santiago and Laura Acampora are facing animal abuse and child endangerment charges.

A child was rushed to the hospital after shooting herself in the foot in the city's Port Richmond neighborhood Tuesday night. It happened at about 11 p.m. on the 1800 block of Wishart Street. Police do not believe the shooting to be suspicious.

Family Awarded $4.7M by Jury, New Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange, Fralinger Props Survive Fire

The family of the man shot by an off duty Philadelphia police officer three years ago has been awarded $4.7 million dollars by a federal jury. The jury also found the City of Philadelphia not responsible, ruling that Officer Frank Tepper was not acting as an officer during a drunken scuffle outside a baby shower. Tepper was convicted of murder and is in prison for life.
