This Sunday, August 2nd from noon to 10 p.m., Northern Liberties will play host to the 7th Annual 2nd Street Festival. The city's biggest and best block party will close down 2nd Street between Germantown and Green Ave. The streets will be filled with 200 vendors offering workshops, art, food, beer gardens, craft vendors, and other merchandise. The American dentist who killed Cecil the lion is being sought for extradition to Zimbabwe to stand trial. Dr. Walter Palmer has gone into hiding as social media explodes with criticism over the incident. Zimbabwe says the crime happened in their country and Walter Palmer should be tried there.

Port Richmond Shooting Kills Young Mother, Toast The Pope, Dominican Republic Love Park Rally

A young mother was shot in the head and killed with her 2 year old child still in the house. Police say this happened around 11:00 p.m. Thursday night on the 3000 Block of Aramingo Avenue in Port Richmond. Authorities say the mother was shot in an upstairs bedroom. Her daughter was not harmed and is now safe with friends in the neighborhood. Police do not have the shooter in police custody. It was reported a black male wearing a grey hoodie fled south on Aramingo Avenue from the house.Read More

3 Dead, Two Injured After High Speed Crash in Northeast; 5yo Taken From Home And Beaten

Three people are dead and two are severely injured after a high speed car accident in Bustleton on Wednesday night. It happened near Red Lion Road and Sandmeyer Lane just before midnight. A 2007 Acura was traveling at a high rate of speed and hit a tree, tearing the car in half. Two 17-year-old girls and a 20-year-old male are dead, and a 17 and 19-year-old were both injured. Cole Hamels is headed to the Texas Rangers. The Phillies ace pitcher was a hot commodity on the trade block as several teams in the playoff hunt made offers. In the end Texas offered the most attractive package in the trade. The Phillies will send Hamels and reliever Jake Diekman and get five prospect from the Rangers including three of their best young players plus pitcher Matt Harrison. After years of trade speculation, Cole Hamels' time in Philadelphia is ending. The Phillies have agreed to trade Hamels to the Texas Rangers for a package of prospects. Hamels becomes the first pitcher in major league history traded during a season immediately after throwing a no-hitter — he no-hit the Chicago Cubs on Saturday at Wrigley Field. Democratic Congressman Chaka Fattah, along with four others, have been indicted today on multiple counts of conspiracy, racketeering, bribery, money laundering and other charges. The indictment covers schemes going back to 2007 when Fattah unsuccessfully ran for Mayor of Philadelphia. He is charged with accepting an illegal $1 million campaign loan, concealing it with a consulting company, and paying it back with donations to his non-profit. A man lost his leg after being pinned underneath a freight train in the Bustleton section of Philadelphia this morning. It happened around 2:30am near Welsh Road and Grant Avenue when the man was hit by the train, and his leg became pinned underneath. It took rescue crews and a surgical team from Einstein Medical Center more than 2 hours to get the 46-year-old free.

A church group from North Jersey has decided to stay at the Philadelphia Zoo the weekend of the Papal Visit. A group of parishioners from a church in Ridgewood, Bergen County will be sleeping on the ground inside buildings that contain insect and bird exhibits. The group of 240 parishioners are able to stay through the Zoo’s overnight program. It costs $65 per person, significantly cheaper than a hotel room in Philadelphia. The man who led authorities on a wild 2-hour chase between two states last night was wanted after stealing underwear. 54-year-old Robert F. Ritter of Blackwood, NJ is accused of stealing a pack of boxers and a pack of tank tops from the ShopRite in Brooklawn back on July 9th.
