A Philadelphia police officer is recovering after he was shot several times during an ambush late Thursday night in West Philadelphia. (photo below) The officer - 33-year-old Jesse Hartnett - was sitting in his patrol car around 11:30 p.m. at 60th and Spruce Streets when a gunman fired 13 shots through the driver's side of the car and was struck three times in his left arm. An accident in the southbound lanes of the Roosevelt Boulevard extension between the Schuylkill Expressway and Ridge Ave around 4:00 p.m. closed the road forcing vehicles off at Ridge and backing traffic up past Broad Street. New Jersey state officials have found a Williamstown woman lied to South Jersey horse owners about being a licensed veterinarian and caused some horses to die horribly slow, painful deaths. Jacque Smith was treating horses until a six-count complaint was filed in Superior Court in Atlantic County to request restitution for the horse owners. Incidents date back to 2005. Upper Darby police shot and killed a man outside of his apartment on Tuesday night during a violent confrontation. Police responded to a call at the Bishop Hill Apartments located at 151 E. Bishop Avenue at 7:10 p.m. 54-year-old David Zollo was threatening suicide. When officers arrived, Zollo was outside in the parking lot with a knife. He threatened officers and moved towards them. Neshaminy High School Head Basketball Coach Jerry Devine has been placed on leave as coach and from his teaching responsibilities after an incident at the end of a close basketball game last night. It was caught on video as Devine's team gets hit with a foul at the end of a close game. Then Devine gets in the face of the ref and head butts him, knocking the ref backward to the floor. Philadelphia's new police commissioner was sworn in today at his alma mater in North Philly. 51-year-old Richard Ross is a familiar face in the force. The 26-year veteran joined the department in 1989 and most recently served as First Deputy Commissioner under departing Charles Ramsey. Frigid temperatures made it difficult for firefighters called to Cobbs Creek Golf Course late last night. A fire broke out in the clubhouse on Cardington Road on the Karakung Course about 11:00 p.m. The fire was under control just before 1 a.m. There were no injuries however the fire department had water issues in the cold and now the house has completely iced over.
