Philadelphia Police have released new images of two vehicles being sought in the deadly hit-and-run of a mother and her son last month in Hunting Park. It happened around 8 p.m. Sunday, 8/8, under an overpass on the 100 block of West Luzerne Street, between Rising Sun Avenue and American Street. 37-year-old Rebecca Malave was walking with 3-year-old Armani Negron not far from their home when they were hit. The 7th Annual Yo South Philly Phestival is back this Sunday, September 12th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. This year it will be held at a the Stella Maris School Yard at 10th and Bigler. SEPTA is proposing a new naming, lettering, and coloring scheme for the public transit system. They say they have been doing extensive research and soliciting feedback from customers. They came up with this $40 million rebrand that will make it easier for riders to find their way. Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said on Thursday, 9/2, that it is likely that an 8-year-old girl who was shot and killed outside a high school football game in Sharon Hill last Friday, 8/27, was struck by gunfire from police officers shooting back at suspected gunman. A lifeguard was killed and 7 others injured by a lightning strike in Berkeley Township, Ocean County, NJ, on Monday afternoon, 8/30. It happened around 4:35 p.m. at the 21st Avenue Beach in South Seaside Park near Island Beach State Park. Four lifeguards and four beachgoers were "either struck or were injured by the residual lightning strike" according to the Berkeley Township Police. 19-year-old lifeguard Keith Pinto of Toms River was killed by the strike. Two enormous fin whales washed ashore on separate beaches on Sunday, 8/29, in New Jersey and Delaware and died. Fin whales are the second largest species besides blue whales and can grow to be 80 feet long. A 54-foot fin whale was found on the beach in Barnegat Light, Long Beach Island, NJ. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center says the whale has a large impact on its right side which led to its death. It was likely caused by a ship. The whale was buried on the beach.
