Made in America 2021 will go on as planned despite the ongoing effects from Hurricane Ida on the Philadelphia area. It is being held once again on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, PA, over Labor Day Weekend on Saturday-Sunday September 4-5. Set times and stages are now available below. The entire Philadelphia-area will be affected by the remnants of Hurricane Ida, now a Tropical Depression, the next few days. There is currently a Flash Flood Watch from Wednesday, 9/1, 8:00 a.m. to Thursday, 9/1, 11:00 a.m. The National Weather Service says, "Periods of heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms associated with this low will result in widespread 4 to 6 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts likely exceeding 6 inches by Thursday morning." A lifeguard was killed and 7 others injured by a lightning strike in Berkeley Township, Ocean County, NJ, on Monday afternoon, 8/30. It happened around 4:35 p.m. at the 21st Avenue Beach in South Seaside Park near Island Beach State Park. Four lifeguards and four beachgoers were "either struck or were injured by the residual lightning strike" according to the Berkeley Township Police. 19-year-old lifeguard Keith Pinto of Toms River was killed by the strike. Two enormous fin whales washed ashore on separate beaches on Sunday, 8/29, in New Jersey and Delaware and died. Fin whales are the second largest species besides blue whales and can grow to be 80 feet long. A 54-foot fin whale was found on the beach in Barnegat Light, Long Beach Island, NJ. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center says the whale has a large impact on its right side which led to its death. It was likely caused by a ship. The whale was buried on the beach.

The family has identified the 7-year-old girl struck and killed by gunfire after a high school football game in Delaware County on Friday night, 8/27. Pennsylvania State Police are looking for a Malvern, Chester County, man accused of sexually assaulting at least two children. Authorities believe that 31-year-old Graham Roman, who is out on parole, may have fled to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The investigation into Roman involving the abuse of a child began on August 13. It was announced on Friday, 8/27, that all participants and volunteers in the 2021 Blue Cross Broad Street Run will need to be fully vaccinated to participate in the in-person 10-mile race. Philadelphia Parks and Recreation says the vaccination requirement is based on guidance from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
