Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf signed an executive order on Wednesday, 4/8, authorizing the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) 'to commandeer and utilize all PPE, pharmaceuticals, and other medical resources required to respond to, provide care for those afflicted by, or otherwise prevent the spread of COVID- 19.' Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw announced on Wednesday that all 6,500 police officers have been instructed to wear a mask while on duty. Officers have been issued a cloth mask with a bag to store it. Outlaw wrote in a memo to officers, "The purpose of providing these masks is to help prevent spreading the COVID-19 virus among our coworkers. Many who have the virus have no signs or symptoms." SEPTA announced that it will be reducing service across all modes of transportation and moving to a new Lifeline Service schedule beginning Thursday, 4/9. The new schedule 'focuses on providing access for essential workers traveling to hospitals, grocery stores and other life-sustaining services.' Delaware Governor John Carney announced all short-term rentals will be banned starting at 8 p.m. Tuesday, 4/7. The ban includes all vacation home rentals, hotels, motels and condo rentals. It also includes Airbnb, VRBO, HomeAway, and others. It will last until May 15 or until the health threat is over. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed an executive order on Tuesday, 4/7, closing all state and county parks. The order takes effect at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and will continue until the public heath hazard is over. Wildwood and North Wildwood, New Jersey, have issued a number of new rules regarding use of the beaches, boardwalk, seawall, and bike path in response to coronavirus COVID-19. The beaches will be closed starting midnight Wednesday, April 8th. Sunbathing, sitting in chairs, lying on blankets, organized sports, and grouping of people on the beach is prohibited. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney confirmed the death of a Philadelphia police officer from coronavirus COVID-19 over the weekend. 59-year-old Lt. Jimmy Walker was a supervisor in the traffic division. He was a 33 year veteran of the force. "This weekend, we lost a friend, a family member, a hero," Kenney said. "Any death is tragic, but today, it hits close to home. Philadelphia Police are searching for three suspects wanted in the assault of a postal worker on a SEPTA platform last week. It happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, 4/1, on the platform of the Broad Street Line at City Hall. The alleged attackers seemed to randomly target the man waiting for the subway, kicking and punching him to the ground. The suspects videoed their attack and put it on social media.
