Widespread Looting and Destruction in Philadelphia Overshadow Message of Justice for George Floyd

On the second day of unrest in Philadelphia, widespread looting and destruction took over the city starting Sunday mid-afternoon. There were peaceful demonstrations in Center City calling for justice in the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd killed at the hands of police, but opportunists took advantage of the entire situation across the rest of city. Philadelphia has closed all streets in Center City from Vine Street to South Street between the Delaware River and the Schuylkill River. That shutdown includes interstate highways and the Ben Franklin Bridge. SEPTA is also not running through Center City. A Philadelphia police officer shot and killed a knife-wielding suspect who was chasing a SEPTA employee in Frankford on Friday afternoon, 5/29. It happened around 5 p.m. on the 1500 block of Pratt Street in the SEPTA employee lot near the Frankford Transportation Center.
