New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced on Tuesday, June 9, that he will be signing an executive order lifting the stay-at-home orders for the entire state. Social distancing and proper hygiene guidelines, including wearing mask or face coverings should still be followed. Limits on outdoor gathering will be increased to 100 immediately, 250 on June 22, and 500 on July 3. Indoor gatherings will be lifted to either 25% or 50 people, whichever is lower. Fourteen of 17 Philadelphia City Council members wrote a letter to Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney saying that they 'cannot accept the proposed $14 million increase to the police budget for Fiscal Year 2021.' The move was motivated because 'people of our city are telling us that police reform cannot wait.' Council has been in budget hearings for the past several weeks. Bucks County health officials have traced 11 of 33 new coronavirus cases reported on Saturday, 6/6, to the Jersey Shore. Contact tracing has determined that those 11 individuals had contact with a New Jersey resident who had attended multiple gatherings at New Jersey beach houses over the past two weeks. A mural depicting former Philadelphia Mayor and Police Commissioner Frank Rizzo was painted over this morning in South Philadelphia. The prominent mural stood at 9th and Montrose Streets near the Italian Market for nearly 25 years. A statue of Rizzo was removed by the city last week. It had stood outside the Municipal Services Building across from City Hall since 1999. Both the mural and the statue have been targets of repeated vandalism. Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Center City on Saturday, 6/6, continuing to rally against racism and police brutality in the wake of the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police officers on May 25. The Philadelphia District Attorney Office has brought charges against a Philadelphia police officer after video showed him striking a protestor near the head with a baton. Staff Inspector Joseph Bologna is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and other related charges of 21-year-old Temple University student Evan Gorski.
