Who is America's favorite mascot in all of sports? It should come as no surprise around here that the Phillie Phanatic has topped the list. Forbes magazine published the results of nationwide survey conducted by The Marketing Arm. It seems fans everywhere can't get enough of the Phillie Phanatic taunting the opposition and launching hot dogs into the stands. Georgia based Flowers Foods Inc. has acquired Philadelphia's Tasty Baking for an estimated 34.3 million. Known across the South for products like Nature's Own bread and Mrs. Freshley's pies, the addition of Kandy Kakes and Butterscotch Krimpets seems like logical line extension through an already established distribution pipeline. Bloomberg Businessweek recently released it's ranking of top undergraduate business schools. Among the Top 10 are two Philadelphia area institutions, Penn's Wharton school at #4 and Villanova's School of Business at #7. Criteria used include surveys of senior business majors and corporate recruiters, median starting salaries, and number of alumni placed in top MBA programs. Comcast and NBC Universal complete merger

The huge merger deal between Philadelphia based Comcast and GE owned NBC Universal was finally completed yesterday, Friday, Jan 28. Comcast acquired a 51% stake in NBC Universal from GE, to create a nearly $30 billion company. The merger was under tight scrutiny from the FCC and Justice Department but got approval Jan 18, but with a few restrictions, mainly in regards to Comcast's new control of content from NBC and access for emerging services such as Hulu and Netflix streaming.
