  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 09/08/11 2:32 am | updated: 09/08/11 2:32 am

The Phillies looked to have squashed division rivals, the Atlanta Braves, with a three game sweep pushing them 10 1/2 games back in the standings. It was the first series sweep suffered by the Braves since the Phillies did it to them last September. It also put the Phils at another franchise high 43 games over .500 at 91-48 on their march to a record breaking season with 23 games left.

Not that there really was any doubt that Roy Oswalt, with all his experience, would have that... Read More

  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 09/07/11 3:59 am | updated: 09/07/11 3:59 am

The game may have started just under 2 hours late and only a few later innings saw the rain let up to a mist, but the Phillies keep proving they are deserving of the league leading 90-48 record. It was a minor miracle that a window opened up long enough and early enough that baseball could be played last night at a reasonable hour with drenching rains covering the area before and after, but Rookie of the Year candidate Vance Worley improved his record to 11-1 and the Phillies stretched their...   by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 08/16/11 2:41 am | updated: 08/16/11 12:41 pm

Former Phillie ('03-'05) Jim Thome, 40, now playing for the Minnesota Twins, became only the 8th player to have hit 600 home runs for their career. That came tonight after hitting a 3 run shot to left field off Daniel Schiereth in the 7th inning at Comerica Park in Detroit. Despite giving the Twins the 9-5 lead, Tigers fans cheered him as he rounded the bases on this monumental occasion. Thome had hit #599 on his previous at bat in the 6th inning, that was a two-run shot.

Phillies Offense is Alive

  by: iradiotom - Philadelphia, PA
started: 08/04/11 11:59 am | updated: 08/04/11 11:59 am

The Phillies offense has suddenly perked up and is producing more hits and runs. According to Charlie Manuel, "this is hitting season" the summer months when he expects bats to come alive. The recent addition of Hunter Pence to the 5 spot in the batting order behind Ryan Howard seems to be forcing pitchers to throw Howard more fastballs. And the big man has responded with multiple home run games. Howard simply attributes his burst to being a second half guy. Whatever it is, it's working. ... Read More

The Philadelphia Eagles have raised the bar. With key trades and some surprisingly aggressive free agent signings, the Eagles have elevated expectations around the league, and among fans in Philadelphia. Gang Green now includes marquis names like Cromartie, Asomugha, Evans, Jenkins, Washburn and Babin. Add these guys to a roster that already includes names like Vick, Samuel and Jackson, and a good looking team starts to look great. Still to do - sign the top draft pick and Desean Jackson to...
