Phillies Single Game Tickets Go On Sale

Fans started lining up at Citizens Bank Park early Thursday to make sure they got their hands on tickets to the games they had their eyes on, whether it be a giveaway night, the first night home game, or just one on the schedule that fits their plans. This morning at 8:30 am tickets went on sale at the box office, at phi lies.com and on the phones 215-463-1000.

Apparently the Washington Nationals would rather see empty seats than Phillies fans in the seats of their ballpark. Forget You, Philly is the new cry from the Nationals top brass. They've named the campaign, "Take Back the Park." The Nationals plan to prevent Phillies fans from buying tickets by refusing to sell tickets to anyone who doesn't have a Washington, Maryland or Virginia address attached to their credit card. Former Philadelphia Eagle and Villanova Wildcat running back Brian Westbrook is about to start a career in radio broadcasting. According to 97.5, The Fanatic, the former running back will be heavily involved with the station's coverage of the NFL Draft, training camp and throughout the football season starting in September.

Long time Phillie Left Fielder, Pat Burrell Retires After 12 Years

Pat Burrell, 35, is putting down the bat after a 12 year career. He was drafted No. 1 overall by the Phillies in 1998 out of the University of Miami as a third baseman, but spent the majority of his career as a left fielder. He was most notably known for his prowess at the plate. Pat the Bat finished his career just shy of 300 HR's at 292.

Eagles Hire Todd Bowles to Coach Eagles Defensive Backs

The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing in former Miami Dolphins interim head coach, Todd Bowles to be the Birds defensive backs coach. Juan Castillo will remain defensive coordinator.

Bowles will be in charge of the entire secondary. Safeties coach Mike Zordich will report to under Bowles. Bowles will fill the vacancy left by Johnnie Lynn after he Eagles fired him.

Andy Musser "did play-by-play for every major sports team in Philadelphia except the NHL Flyers", says the Philadelphia Inquirer.

He worked Phillies baseball from 1976 to 2001, most of that time alongside the legendary Harry Kalas and Richie "Whitey" Ashburn.

Musser broadcast the NBA Philadelphia 76ers championship team that included Wilt Chamberlain.

Soccer All Star Game to be Played in Philadelphia in 2012

Philadelphia will host the 2012 Major League Soccer All Star Game. Actually PPL Park in Chester, home to the Philadelphia Union, will be the site of the game.

The New York-based league said Tuesday that the 18,500-seat stadium will host the event July 25.

The game will be televised on ESPN 2 and ESPN International.

Cole Hamels and Wilson Valdez Sign 1-year Contracts With Phillies and Avoid Arbitration

Left-hander Cole Hamels and infielder Wilson Valdez have both agreed to one-year contracts with the Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced the deals today. Both players were eligible for salary arbitration but avoided those proceedings by signing these deals.

Joe Paterno had not spoken publicly about his role in the ongoing sexual abuse scandal that rocked Penn State University. Students rioted in November when Penn State fired Joe Paterno as the school's head football coach. Paterno-who is battling lung cancer-gave his first interview to the Washington Post.

Phillies Give Kyle Kendrick a One Year Deal

The Phillies have agreed to a one-year, $3.585 million contract with Kyle Kendrick. With five weeks until pitchers and catchers report, the Phillies have secured Kendrick who has started, worked long relief and anything else the Phillies have asked of him.

In a career-high 34 games last season, including 15 starts, the 27-year-old Kendrick went 8-6 with a career-best 3.22 ERA.
