Despite a loss and a plethora of pitching woes, the future may look a little brighter for the Phils

The Phillies lost in a high scoring bout last night, 11-7. The loss was nothing new, especially in Citizens Bank Park this year, where the Phils have had horrible outings this year, but the way in which the game went possibly gave fans some light at the end of the tunnel. Chase Utley returned to the lineup for the first time since game 5 of the NLDS. If that wasn't good enough, he went 3-5 with a solo home run in his first at bat. To add to the list of Utley's positives, he looked to have a... Read More

started: 06/24/12 6:21 pm | updated: 06/24/12 6:21 pm
The Phillies are planning to activate Chase Utley for Wednesday's game vs. the Pirates. Utley's been playing official minor league rehab games for the Clearwater Threshers in Florida. He will probably play one more up here, most likely for AAA Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. He started those games hitting as a DH before eventually taking the field at 2B. His rehab assignment officially ends July 1st, but provided no setbacks he will end early. He played nine games for the Phillies’ Clearwater club... Read More
Phillies Win on Historic Walkoff by Jim Thome
  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 06/24/12 12:11 am | updated: 06/24/12 12:11 am
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6 this afternoon with a pinch-hit walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 9th by Jim Thome. He came off the bench to pinch hit for Jonathan Papelbon, who blew the save with a two run lead in the top of the ninth. Thome has talked about how difficult pinch hitting is, without the regular at bats, but last week's American league road trip helped get him back in stride as the DH. He took the count to 3-2 today before launching a pitch to left... Read More

Last night's thunderstorms and heavy rains delayed the start of the Phillies' interleague series opener with the Tampa Bay Rays. After about an hour initial delay ground crew pulled the tarp and the teams and crowd started to make their way back into the stadium anticipating an 8:45 start. However, when they were just about ready the rains picked up again and the tarp came back out.

The game was finally called for good at 9:53 pm.

Michael Phelps vying to take home record number of medals?
  by: Hailey - Collegeville, PA
started: 06/20/12 4:18 am | updated: 06/20/12 4:18 am
Michael Phelps picked his events for the upcoming London Olympics. In addition to the three team relays he will participate in, Phelps entered into seven other individual events. This means that Phelps is in the running for 10 Olympic medals, which would outdo his 8 medals from Beijing. To up the ante, Phelps was recently on 60 Minutes, where he said that he would retire after the London Olympics. Leaving with 10 medals would be a worthy end to a career as varied and prolific as Phelps’.... Read More

  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 06/12/12 12:44 am | updated: 06/12/12 12:44 am
Chase Utley will start an official rehabilitation assignment tomorrow with the Clearwater Threshers (A) as the DH. This will put him on track for a July 2nd return to the Phillies if he uses all 20 days available in the Rehab assignment. He's been in Florida since June 3rd playing in extended spring training games, but has yet to take the field, but has run the bases.

Last year, Utley did not take the full 20 days to get ready after extended spring training to transition up to... Read More

Chase Utley Makes A Move, Heads to Florida For Extended Spring Training, No Timetable for Return
  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 06/04/12 1:06 am | updated: 06/04/12 1:06 am
The year long mystery surrounding the status of Chase Utley got a little clearer this afternoon. Utley is going to head to Clearwater and start to play in extended spring training games. He could play as soon as Monday, probably as DH for a while before taking the field. There are extended spring training games Monday-Wed. and next week June 12-14. He can start an official rehab stint at anytime, and has 20 days to return to the Phillies when he does (unless suffering a set back).

The Phillies seem to be plagued by injuries these days, with a lot of unknowns, and with no end in sight for the biggest injured names of them all.

Roy Halladay is still going to be out 6-8 weeks. He received a second opinion from the Mets' physician this week but is waiting for the results.

Victorino received a Cortisone shot in his hand, sat out yesterday, but is back in the lineup today.

Vance Worley could return soon, he'll just pitch with... Read More

The 76ers edged past the Chicago Bulls tonight to win 79-78 in Game 6. That clinches this young team's first playoff series win since 2003. They become only the 5th number 8 seed to defeat a number 1 in the NBA playoffs. They'll meet the Boston Celtics in Round 2.

The Sixers took full advantage of some keys losses for the Bulls, who lost reigning MVP G Derrick Rose and C Joakim Noah to injury, to get out ahead of the Chicago team in the series.
