A North Philadelphia man is under arrest after he allegedly broke into a South Jersey home and held a teenage babysitter at gunpoint while burglarizing the home. It happened around 3:30 pm, Thursday afternoon, 3/21, on Muirfield Court in Medford. 24-year-old Shannon Soroka forced his way into the home and pointed a gun at the 19-year-old babysitter. He demanded to see where the residents keep their money and walked the teen around the house before leaving. The teen and 2-year-old girl were not injured. The home belongs to professional poker player Darren Elias. Elias and his wife were out to dinner. He believes they were targeted, and the suspect must have thought there were valuables in the house because of his occupation. It is not known if he took anything. Soroka is charged with robbery, aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon, criminal mischief and related offenses. He is being held at Burlington County Jail.

The mumps outbreak at Temple University has now spread off campus and into the Philadelphia region. There are now around 100 confirmed and/or probable cases of the highly contagious disease. Including Temple University, there are now suspected cases at Drexel University, West Chester University, Abington Senior High School, and North Wales Elementary School. Testing is being done to confirm those additional cases and parents have been warned. Symptoms include fever, swelling, and tenderness in salivary glands. Symptoms can take two weeks to appear after infection. It is spread through saliva. Close contact, sharing food/beverage, and sneezing/coughing can spread the disease. The best way to protect yourself is to receive the vaccine.

Philadelphia Police are looking for two suspects who posed as police officers while restraining two people and kidnapping the woman in Northeast Philadelphia on Thursday night. It started around 9:15 p.m. on the 6200 block of Bustleton Avenue. A 25-year-old woman and 24-year-old man were inside a vehicle when the suspects approached. They had on police-style vests and flashing police lights in a white Nissana. They order the victims out of their car and used zip-ties to restrain them behind their backs. They put the female in the back seat of their vehicle and placed the male back into his vehicle. The two suspects then drove off with the female in their car. The woman was dropped off in front of 15th Police District Headquarters at Harbison Avenue and Levick Street. The victims did not have any injuries. Both suspects are described as Hispanic, 5' 10", wearing a black vest that said "Police" on it. One had a beard.
