A 6-year-old boy was killed and a 26-year-old man critically injured when they were hit by an SUV driven by a suspected drunk driver while they were riding a mini-bike in West Philadelphia. It happened on Sunday night, 4/22, at 11:10 p.m. at the intersection of 63rd and Callowhill Streets. The mini-bike was traveling southbound on 63rd. It did not have have any lights or reflectors and would not be considered street legal. The 2010 Jeep Compass SUV was traveling northbound on 63rd and making a left at Callowhill when it struck the bike. The man on the bike was taken to Lankenau Medical Center in critical condition. He had to have a leg amputated. The boy was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and pronounced dead shortly after midnight. They were not wearing helmets. The child is the son of the man's girlfriend. He potentially faces charges for endangering the child and operating an illegal vehicle. The driver of the SUV faces DUI charges. Alcohol was found in his vehicle and he was driving on a suspended license. Police are still investigating. This is the first fatality involved an illegal dirt bike or ATV on the streets this year, but with the weather becoming warmer, police expect that activity to rise.

Philadelphia Police have identified the man and woman shot and killed at a house party near Temple University over the weekend. It happened at 19th and W Diamond Street a little after 12 a.m Saturday, 4/21, when a gunman opened fire on a crowd of people. The victims are not Temple students, but students do live in the area. 20-year-old Viktoriya Manasyan of Holland, Bucks County, was shot in the back and died shortly after being taken to the hospital. 21-year-old Rashawn Tahir Miller of Philadelphia was shot in the head and died 9 hours later at the hospital. Two other victims, a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, were shot in the leg and remain hospitalized in stable condition. No arrests have been made. Philadelphia Homicide Detectives are investigating the case.

Last week, in Montoursville, Lycoming County, in North Central Pennsylvania, police came to the aid of an elderly man who had no way to visit his sick wife in the hospital. On Thursday, 4/19, the 84-year-old man's wife of the same age had a medical emergency and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. Montoursville Police Chief Jeff Gyurina was at the scene. The man told Gyurina that he did not have any family in the area and he could not drive anymore himself. The chief gave the man the patrol car's cell number and told him to call whenever he needed that ride. A few hours later, Deputy Chief Jason Bentley got a call and drove the man to the hospital in Williamsport. The chief said, “it’s a small town so you try to help out when you can.”
