Fallen Delaware Department of Corrections Officer Sgt. Steven Floyd was posthumously elevated to the rank of lieutenant and was awarded the medal of valor on Friday afternoon. Floyd was taken hostage with three others on Wednesday by inmates at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna. He did not survive the ordeal. An autopsy performed by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science revealed that Floyd's death was homicide by trauma. At a graduation ceremony today for new correctional cadets, Department of Correction Commissioner Perry Phelps presented the medal of valor to Floyd's son. The rest of the Floyd family was also in attendance in the packed house. Lt. Floyd was able to warn other officers that there was a trap and helped avoid an ambush. The investigation into the hostage situation is on going. On Friday evening, hundreds gathered for a candlelight vigil in Smyrna to honor the fallen hero.

Three people were injured when someone intentionally drove into a crowd of people in West Philadelphia on Friday afternoon. It happened around 3:30 p.m. on the 5900 block of Locust Street. It began as a large fight near 60th and Spruce. A group of people broke off and walked towards Locust. At that point, a sedan came down Locust Street from 60th at a high rate of speed, ran into the group, and fled. The driver hit a 27-year old man, a 27-year old woman and a 52-year old woman. The man and 52-year-old woman were taken to the hospital in stable condition with injuries to various extremities. The 27-year-old woman injured her leg and was treated on scene. Police are searching for the driver investigating the fight that led up to the crash.
