Thousands braved the rain in Washington, D.C. outside the U.S. Capitol as Republican Donald J. Trump took the oath of office and was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States at 12 noon. Moments before, Mike Pence took his oath as Vice President. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir performed 'America the Beautiful.' Jackie Evancho sang 'The Star Spangled Banner.' Last night, the National Mall was full as the inaugural concert took place featuring Toby Keith, Three Doors Down, Lee Greenwood, and others on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The inaugural balls will be held tonight.

Philadelphia Police are preparing for several demonstrations in Center City today and tomorrow in connection to the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump. Police released a traffic advisory on Thursday night for the area of Center City especially near City Hall and Independence Mall from Noon through the evening hours on Friday due to planned protest activity. They recommended the areas be avoided if possible. Delays and road closures can also be expected on Saturday for the Women's March in Philadelphia. 20,000 are expected to attend. Road closures can be expected around the Ben Franklin Parkway and Eakins Oval from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Police in Washington, D.C. were forced to use pepper spray and stun grenades after spirited protests turned violent about a mile from the Capitol and an hour before the inauguration. Protesters smashed windows of businesses, turned over trashcans, lit fires, damaged vehicles, and fought back against police with bricks. Some of the protesters had come with hammers and crowbars. Around 95 people were arrested. Earlier in the day, protesters disrupted checkpoints where ticket holders lined up to get into the day's inaugural events. This afternoon, along the parade route, many demonstrators held signs and chanted, albeit peacefully.
