Foam in Center City After PECO Explosion; Jill Stein Drops PA Recount; Fire in Oakland 'Ghost Ship'

Explosions at a PECO substation in Center City caused massive amounts of fire suppressant foam to leak from the building and cover an entire block. Police received several 911 calls around 1 p.m. reporting explosions coming from inside the PECO Waverly Sub Station on the 400 block of South Juniper Street near Lombard. Crews arrived to find the fire suppressant systems had released a large amount of foam to prevent the spread of any fire inside in the building. It poured out onto the streets several feet high in places. They determined that a transformer blew inside the building. 2,500 customers were without power which has been restored. The foam was pushed and washed down storm drains. It is non-toxic and environmentally safe.

The Green Party is dropping its court case seeking a statewide recount of the Presidential race in Pennsylvania. They had argued that electronic voting machines in the commonwealth could have been hacked and voting results artificially changed. The next hearing in the case was scheduled for Monday. They needed to come up with a $1 million bond by 5pm Monday, which they say they cannot afford. This will not affect any Green-party supported recounts being held in individual precincts brought on by individual voters. Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein has lead the efforts to bring forth recounts in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

UPDATE 12/3/16 11:30 pm: The Green Party announced that it will seek an emergency federal court order on Monday for a recount in Pennsylvania. "Make no mistake - the Stein campaign will continue to fight for a statewide recount in Pennsylvania," recount campaign lawyer Jonathan Abady said in a statement issued around 11:30 p.m. "We are committed to this fight to protect the civil and voting rights of all Americans."

A fire in an Oakland, CA warehouse on Friday night killed at least 9 people and left many missing. The death toll could rise to dozens as fire crews make their way through the rubble over the next few days. The building itself was illegally converted into a labyrinth of artists' studios. Some of them may having even living there. It was known as the 'Oakland Ghost Ship.' Last night, 50-100 people were attending an electronic-music party when the fire broke out. There were no sprinklers inside and the clutter helped the blaze take off quickly. Attendees became trapped when they couldn't find clear exits. The only way from the second to the first floor was a stairway made of pallets. Oakland officials opened an investigation into the building a few weeks ago after numerous complaints. There are still many people unaccounted for; officials think some may still be discovered inside the building.
