Taxi, limo and Uber Black drivers are threatening to boycott the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this summer unless lawmakers address Lyft and UberX services that have been operating illegally in the city since 2014. The Philadelphia Limousine Association and two taxi groups on Monday said in a statement that they would refuse to pick people up during the convention July 25-28 if the city doesn't crack down on UberX and Lyft.

Conestoga High School parents packed the auditorium for a community meeting to discuss the hazing investigation allegedly involving members of the school football team. The incident was reported last October. District Attorney Tom Hogan said then that 3 seniors held down a 14-year old freshman in the locker room and sexually assaulted him with a broomstick when he refused to be hazed. The investigation has led to head coach John Hogan stepping down and the district relieved the entire Varsity and JV staff of their duties saying there was insufficient adult presence in the locker room.

Philadelphia City Council members held a public hearing last night to discuss gun violence in the city and how to deal with it. Of the city's 60 homicides since the start of the year, 24 of the victims were under the age of 25. And of the 261 people shot, 130 of them were under 25, and 14 were younger than 18. Several of the homicides involved young people who live in the same neighborhoods. Statistics such as these inspired Councilmen Kenyatta Johnson and Curtis Jones Jr., who chairs Council's Committee on Public Safety, to hold a public hearing ahead of the city's annual budget process, to gather input on how to deal with gun violence. Among the people giving testimony were representatives from the Police Department, Philadelphia School District, District Attorney's Office, and community organizations; and residents, including Felicia Pendleton, Jayvon Mitchell-Pendleton's mother.
