I-295 Mercer County Accident, Encinia Firing Upheld, 76ers Training Facility Job Fair

Crews are responding to the scene of a tractor-trailer accident on I-295 in Mercer County, New Jersey. Several lanes are currently blocked at mile marker 66.8 in Lawrence Township and vehicles are squeezing by on the shoulder. Officials say the tractor-trailer crashed into the guardrail and is leaking oil. No word on injuries at this time. Motorists should expect major delays in the area. The crash is under investigation.

The decision to fire Brian Encinia, the Texas state trooper who arrested Sandra Bland, was upheld by the Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday. Encinia arrested Bland in July 2015 after a traffic stop. Authorities accused her of failing to use her turn signal. Three days later, Bland was found dead in her cell. No one was indicted in relation to the jailhouse death, but a grand jury did not believe Encinia’s statement that he removed Bland from the car she was driving so he could conduct a safer traffic investigation. Encinia was indicted on a perjury charge, and authorities began terminations proceedings shortly after. He has the right to appeal Tuesday’s decision. Bland’s death raised questions of excessive police force and the role of race in police interactions. She is African-American. Her family says she should never have been arrested and would never have killed herself. Police say she hanged herself in her cell.

The Philadelphia 76ers and the construction company that’s building its new training facility in Camden will hold a job fair later this month. Lisa Mattioli is the Diversity and Community Manager for Intech Construction, which is co-sponsoring the event. She says they’re looking to fill ten to 20 craftworker positions. The job fair will be held on St. Patrick’s Day from 1-5 p.m. at the Waterfront Technology Center at 200 Federal Street in Camden. For information, call Lisa at 215-243-4941.
