Hall and Oates Open Fillmore; Joaquin Tracks Away; Vatican Pushes Kim Davis Back

Hall and Oates christened the new Fillmore in Fishtown last night before a sold out crowd of 2,500. Sixty-eight year old Darryl Hall joked that he used to be afraid to go to Fishtown 43 years ago. Hall and Oates started the set with "Maneater" and went on with a blue eyed-soul-pop evening filled with classic hits. The club complex is the seventh Live Nation-owned Fillmore in the United States, named after the original Fillmore founded by Bill Graham in San Francisco in 1965.

Hurricane Joaquin looks like it's decided to stay offshore as it tracks up the east coast. The Category 4 storm is still south of Florida but the experts now predict a northeasterly track that will put it over colder water and weaken the storm as it approaches early next week. However the Nor’easter we have this weekend will deliver plenty of moisture and wind, especially at the shore.

The Vatican is distancing Pope Francis from Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who claims the Pope met with her and implied support for her resistance to gay marriage. The Vatican says she was one of dozens of people the pope greeted in Washington and that their encounter “should not be considered a form of support of her position.” Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, said Francis met with “several dozen” people at the Vatican’s embassy in Washington just before leaving for New York and meetings are normal on any Vatican trip and are due to the pope’s “kindness and availability.”
