The Grateful Dead may have played their final shows under that name but that doesn't mean the members have hung up their instruments. It was announced today that John Mayer will join Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart this Halloween at Madison Square Garden as Dead & Company. Rounding out the band will be Allman Brothers bassist Oteil Burbridge and Ratdog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. Phil Lesh and Bruce Hornsby are not involved. Mike Gordon of Phish had rehearsed with the lineup but stepped out due to his busy schedule. Mayer was rumored to join the Grateful Dead during their "Fare The Well" tour and played a couple of Phil Lesh and Friends gigs earlier this summer. He has been practicing with the band since March. So far the October 31st date is the only one scheduled, but more are expected. You can find more information and tickets at: http://deadandcompany.com

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis has released their first new song in three years featuring a collaboration with Ed Sheeran. The track called "Growing Up" is directed at Macklemore's newborn daughter, Sloane. He offers the 2-month old heartfelt and soulful advice and future apologies. Macklemore had suffered a relapse into his drug addictions following the sudden rise to fame and busy touring schedules. Production of new music all but stopped for the Seattle duo. He got back on the road to recovery when he learned his fiance was pregnant last September and back to the studio. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are expecting to release a followup to 2012's The Heist sometime later this year. Stream the new song here:

Before Kurt Cobain formed Nirvana he started Fecal Matter. In 1985, shortly after dropping out of high school, 18-year-old Cobain started the band with drummer Greg Hokanson, and Melvins drummer Dale Crover on bass. They recorded one demo tape around Easter 1986. The broke up in 1987 when The Melvins went on tour to promote their debut EP. Krist Novoselic eventually heard a tape of the demo and got a hold of Cobain. The two then started Nirvana. Nirvana recorded “Downer” for Bleach. They also recorded “Anorexorcist” and “Spank Thru.” Here is the full demo:
