Philadelphia Trash Pickup Delays, Revel Casino Sale, MaST Charter Lottery

The cold temperatures and icy streets are taking their toll on sanitation crews in Philadelphia as trash pick up has fallen behind schedule. Keith Warren with the Sanitation Department says the winter weather has put trash pick-up about a day behind schedule as the cold isn’t letting trash collectors work at their regular pace. Warren is asking that everybody still puts their trash out at the regular time.

A deal to sell Atlantic City's former Revel Casino Hotel to a Florida developer has been resurrected. Glenn Straub signed a deal Tuesday to buy Revel for $82 million. The casino cost $2.4 billion to build. Straub plans to have at least part of what he envisions primarily as a recreational complex open by summer and is still not sure whether a casino will be part of his plan.

Thousands of parents learned Tuesday whether their child was awarded a spot in one of the city’s most in-demand charter schools. The K-12 Math, Science & Technology charter in far Northeast Philadelphia got 7,165 applications for 96 available seats. There were so many applicants that parents were discouraged from attending the admissions lottery at the school, according to MaST CEO John Swoyer. Instead, he says, they found out online after the entries were run through random.org. MaST was one of five charter operators that the Philadelphia School Reform Commission, last week, gave the conditional okay to open new schools.

Weather, Feb 25

Mostly Sunny. High 38 in Center City.
