Sally Starr, the popular children's TV host of the 1950's and 60's passed away Sunday. She rode into our living rooms on a silver saddle atop a golden palomino and delivered Popeye, Clutch Cargo and the Three Stooges to millions of baby boomers. She died two days after her 90th birthday in a convalescent home in Berlin, NJ. Sally Starr had married twice and had no children.

Residents in Wynnefield have been disputing a plan by SEPTA to re-route the 52 bus through their neighborhood. The change took place January 14th and residents say they are concerned that the continual bus traffic will harm their homes which they say are older and can’t take the vibration. SEPTA says the new shorter route will save them about $670,000 a year.

Property taxes are rising in Bucks, Chester, Montgomery and Delaware Counties affecting hundreds of thousands of homeowners. On top of higher county taxes of about $33, many local municipalities are also increasing rates which will add $100 to many tax bills. The main driver of higher tax rates: Revenues are down. Costs are not.

Sports
Tonight the 76ers have the Memphis Grizzlies. In college hoops, Drexel hosts Delaware.

Weather
Wintry mix today. 37 in Center City.
